W 1993 roku otrzymał Medal Kongresu USA - Congressional Medal of Arts - za szczególny wkład w rozwój sztuki.

Był niewidomy od 6 roku życia, powodem była jaskra.

Zmarł w Beverly Hills (Kalifornia, USA) z powodu niewydolności wątroby i został pochowany na cmentarzu Inglewood Park (Inglewood, Kalifornia, USA).

Wystąpił w następujących reklamach:
